Description
Trinity School, a coeducational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks a Director of Learning Support to direct the school’s learning services for Kindergarten through Grade 12, beginning July 1, 2015.
 
The school’s current full-time learning support staff includes 3 Lower School learning specialists, 3 Middle School learning specialists, and 2 Upper School learning specialists.
 
The Director of Learning Support leads, supports, and evaluates the learning support staff in each division; oversees learning services for all three divisions, working closely with learning specialists, principals, divisional psychologists, class deans, department heads, and others to ensure appropriate coherence and continuity in learning support as students move from grade to grade and division to division; works with each division’s student support team to develop, implement, and revise the instructional support and accommodations provided to students, as outlined in the learning profile prepared by the school; guides the school’s efforts to develop teachers’ capacity to work effectively with students with learning differences; works with the parents of students receiving learning support to assist parents in supporting their children’s learning needs; shapes school policy with respect to student evaluations, counseling-out decisions, and accommodations; oversees tracking of in-house and outside support and tutoring services; maintains lists of referral resources for outside support services; oversees provision of extended-time accommodations in the Upper School and other institutionally-approved accommodations in the school’s three divisions; provides guidance and support for students seeking accommodations in standardized testing such as the SAT or ACT; guides staffing and scheduling for K-12 learning services; serves as the “institutional face” of learning services at Trinity, both internally and externally.
 
The successful candidate will be a skilled, experienced learning specialist who holds a master’s degree in learning disabilities, special education, or related fields and who has experience developing and directing learning support programs and staff.
