Head Robotics Coach (Part-Time)
Summary
Title:Head Robotics Coach (Part-Time)
ID:1077
Department:Middle School
Description
Trinity School, a coeducational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks a Part-Time Head Robotics Coach for Middle School, beginning September 2013.

The ideal candidate will have extensive Robotics Lego Mindstorms experience and preferably training in a related field.  She or he will work with our Lego Robotics teams and prepare them for, and accompany them to, at least two FLL competitions (City and Regional), and perhaps others should the teams qualify.

The Robotics Coach will work with the following model:

  1. The Robotics Coach is THE Head Coach.  This person oversees the assistant coaches and parent assistants (one each for each team), develops curriculum and works directly with kids on a regular basis thereby modeling for the assistant coaches, and helps the assistant coaches with professional development.
  2. The Head Coach will work with two teams of ten students each: one developmental team and one competitive team, with the understanding that there will be some fluidity between the “farm team” and those who compete.
  3. A Trinity Teacher will assistant coach each team (maybe with a parent assistant).
  4. The Head Robotics Coach will commit to being here three days a week (one day will likely be Saturday), for a total of six hours a week.  Days split between robotics work and direct instruction in programming and broader, related computer science topics with a goal of preparing the competitive team for the FLL and other competitions AND training the developmental team with the goal of giving them a shot to transfer to the competitive team.  Time Requirement:  6 Hours per week:
  • Two days during the school week (Monday 3:30-5:00, and Wednesday 2:30-5:00) will be joint developmental/competitive team meetings;
  • Saturday is an extra session (two hours, timeframe to be determined by the Head Coach) for competitive team alone.   This totals 6 hours a week.
  1. Assistant coaches split responsibilities among tech aspect and project work associated with FLL, while Head Coach concentrates on programing and engineering aspects of the work.
  2. Though this is a September through June position, all agree to a September through March “robotics season,” with the balance of the year being more about learning vs. prep for competition.

An Equal Opportunity Employer, Trinity School seeks candidates who will add to the diversity of our school community.
