Description
Trinity School, a coeducational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks a Library Associate for Lower and Middle Schools (.4 time), beginning September 2016.
 
The Library Associate will support the daily operation and maintenance of the Lower School/Middle School Library under the supervision of the two K–6 Librarians and the Director of Libraries.  Primary responsibilities of the Library Associate will be to catalog and process new materials and to assist in the reorganization, re-cataloging, and re- processing of materials in the existing collection.  Preferred hours:  Monday–Thursday, 12:30 – 4:30 PM with occasional additional hours.  This position does not include benefits.
 
Qualifications
 
MLS candidate or recent MLS graduate strongly preferred who is energetic, collaborative, detail-oriented, and flexible.  Familiarity with Destiny Library Manager preferred.  Independent school experience a plus.
 
Responsibilities
 
Cataloging and Processing
  • Download electronic records for new materials using Destiny Library Manager.
  • Modify electronic records in Destiny, including subject headings, series headings, and donor information fields.
  • Create new records in Destiny using MARC fields.
  • Process newly acquired and existing materials.
 
Administrative and Clerical
  • Assist in managing patron records; generate overdue and other computerized reports.
  • Assist in the creation of online bibliographies.
  • Re-label books in accordance with current classification system.
  • Shelve returned books; perform shelf reading.
  • Assist in weeding materials by deleting records and copies in Destiny.
  • Create and assist with book displays and classroom set-up.
  • Search for lost or misplaced books; repair books and other materials.
  • Staff circulation desk as needed; work on other projects as assigned.
 
Patron Support
  • Provide assistance to parents, teachers, and students in locating materials.
  • Assist students and faculty with use of laptops, iPads, and printers.
  • Assist with the supervision of students after school.
  • Supervise students during absence of Librarians for meetings.
 
Faculty Activities
  • Attend library department meetings.
