Description

Trinity School, a coeducational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West of Manhattan, seeks Lifeguards beginning September 2017.

Job Summary:  Reporting to the Director of Aquatics, the lifeguard is primarily responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all patrons and to prevent emergencies in the pool area.  Lifeguards are expected to act in accordance with the Trinity Lifeguard Procedures Manual.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of all patrons in the pool area (both inside the pool and on the pool deck) by preventing and responding to emergencies.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the pool area; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Enforce all pool rules and policies.
  • Maintain a level of physical fitness that allows for the performance of lifeguard duties in an efficient manner.
  • Responsible for reconfiguration of pool for design program.
  • Responsible for cleaning and organization of equipment on the pool deck.  Assist with cleaning and drying of pool towels.
  • Set up and break down of Swim Team timing system.
  • Assist with crowd control during special pool events, such as Homecoming and swim meets.
  • Perform pool area walkthrough and report of hazards 15 minutes prior to start of shift. 
  • Collect swim member’s ID.
  • Guard from a standing position during P.E. classes.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-house service training.
  • Awareness of all swimming pool programs and/or schedule changes.
  • Prepare all required paperwork including weekly payroll time sheet and accident and incident reports.
  • Take chemical readings in both pools and update log book with findings.
  • Notify the Aquatics Coordinator of any unsafe conditions, rescues and first aid administered during shift duty.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and friendly environment in the locker room and pool area.
  • Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service.
  • Must wear assigned swimsuit and carry a whistle while on pool surveillance. 

Other Duties:

  • Maintain effective and timely communication with supervisor.
  • Work together as a team with other Aquatics Staff.
  • Must find substitute to cover shift if unable to work.  All substitutes must be approved by supervisor prior to shift change.
  • Must refrain from all distractions while on duty, this includes, but is not limited to, the use of cell phones, iPods and reading materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift a person off the bottom and out of the water.
  • Perform all skills required for Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED certifications.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time in pool air temperatures and conditions.
  • Comfortable in the water.
  • While performing duties of this job, employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hand to handle, or feel; reach with arms and hands. Employee must be able to talk, taste, smell and see (both near and far). Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Current certifications in Valid Lifeguard/First Aid Certification
  • Valid and current CPR/AED Certification
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic and motivated.

FLSA Classification:        

  • Part-time/Hourly
  • Non-exempt
