Title:Director of Diversity
ID:1139
Department:Administration
Description
Trinity School seeks candidates to serve as Director of Diversity, beginning in July 2016.

In brief, the Director of Diversity is responsible for (1) directing the school’s efforts to ensure that our population, programs and curricula reflect our promise that the school will ”embody and celebrate”  the diversity of our city ; (2) supporting the school’s efforts to build a more diverse faculty, staff and student body; (3) supporting faculty, students, staff, and families in creating and sustaining an inclusive school environment in which all students feel supported and valued; (4) coordinating the efforts of the PA Diversity Committee, the school’s Diversity Steering Committee, PA Affinity Groups, and student and faculty groups focused on diversity; (5) informing and guiding the school as it completes its 2011 Strategic Plan for Diversity and then defines new strategic goals relating to diversity for the next five years.

To do so, the director will continue to develop and review institutional policies, practices, and programs as they pertain to all forms of diversity (race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, religion,  sexual orientation and family composition); direct and support the work of lower, middle, and upper school diversity coordinators; network to identify and recruit faculty who add to Trinity's diversity; serve as a resource and support for students and faculty; develop and facilitate professional development efforts to support diversity; ensure that the school’s financial aid policies and procedures serve the school’s commitment to socioeconomic diversity; serve on those committees and task forces that have an impact on the School’s diversity efforts; support and guide the growing number of parent affinity groups.

The ideal candidate will bring to the position an ability to energize and inspire others, experience leading and managing organizational change, an eagerness to build relationships and networks to strengthen ties within and beyond the Trinity community.  An ability to participate in the life of the school in some other capacity – as a teacher, dean, activity sponsor – is highly desired. The Director reports to the Head of School and serves as a member of the School’s senior administration.

Trinity is committed to enrolling a diverse student body, and the families that become part of the school community reflect the ethnic, racial, gender, socioeconomic, and religious diversity of the city it calls home.  In the K-12 student population of approximately 1000, forty-one percent are students of color.  Students primarily reside in Manhattan, although some students travel to school from the other boroughs of New York as well as from New Jersey.

Trinity’s faculty – a group of 170 extraordinarily talented and dedicated individuals – is certainly one of its greatest assets, and the dialogue between teacher and student is at the heart of the Trinity way of life.  Among the faculty are 22 doctorates and 116 master’s degrees from prominent colleges and universities across the country and around the world. Almost 20% of faculty members represent racial diversity.

Compensation will be competitive, and commensurate with experience and the New York City market.  Other benefits include ample professional development funds; summer travel funds; health, dental, and life insurance; flexible spending accounts; generous retirement benefits that increase with longevity at the school.

An Equal Opportunity Employer, Trinity School seeks candidates who will add to the diversity of our school community.
