Description
Trinity School, a coeducational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks a K-6 Lead Librarian, beginning September 2013.
Under the supervision of the Director of Libraries and the Lower School Principal, the K-6 Lead Librarian provides library services to faculty and students in grades K-6. The Librarian meets periodically with the Lower School Principal and the Director of Libraries and attends Library department meetings as well as Lower School and Middle School faculty meetings. Candidates need an understanding of professional library principles and procedures, a comprehensive knowledge of children’s literature and a high level of computer literacy. The position requires sensitivity to the varying developmental needs of Lower School and Middle School library users. Strong teaching, communication and organizational skills are essential for collaborating with teachers, interactions with students and parents, and departmental team work. An MLS or MSLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school is required.

Responsibilities include:
- Teaching children’s literature and giving book talks in library classes
- Preparing materials for and teaching a program of library and research skills to students in regularly scheduled K-6 library classes.
- Collaborating with LS/MS faculty to support school curriculum and to integrate information literacy skills into library projects
- Assisting children with reference requests and research projects
- Coordinating collection development, selection and weeding of library materials, and cataloging of multimedia resources
- Exercising leadership in exploring appropriate technological tools to support curriculum and instruction
- Continuing to learn about children’s literature and reading levels for grades K-6 to provide reader’s advisory services
- Keeping current on the Follett Library system and the various modules such as cataloging, circulation, reports and inventory
- Attending professional development workshops and meetings, such as ALA, NYSAIS or HVLA to keep informed of advances in library and educational technology fields
- Supervising the two other members of the K-6 Library team as well as the library’s parent volunteers
