Trinity School, a co-educational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks a Lower School Math Specialist, Grades 2 - 4 who will bring expertise, inspiration, and leadership to our Lower School Math Program, beginning in September 2019.
The Lower School Math Specialist, Grades 2 - 4 will:
- Work with the Lower School Math Team to review and oversee the Lower School math curriculum, pedagogy, and instruction ensuring consistency, continuity, and coherence within and across grade‐levels.
- Serve as the primary math instructional specialist working with students and teachers in grades 2 - 4.
- Support Lower School teachers in unit and lesson planning in order to encourage implementation of best practices in the area of mathematics instruction.
- Lead math lessons with the intent of modeling exemplary math instruction and work with small groups and individual students to differentiate instruction.
- Work with Lower School Math Coordinator and Grade 5 math teachers to ensure curricular and instructional coherence across divisions.
The ideal candidate will be an exemplary Lower School Math teacher with curricular and pedagogical expertise in upper elementary math education; a skilled leader attentive to the needs of students and teachers as well as to the needs and culture of the division and school; an effective facilitator of professional collaboration; an approachable, supportive, trusted colleague who possesses intellectual curiosity, an openness to others’ ideas, and flexibility in approaches to teaching; strong organizational skills; and a sense of humor. The school seeks candidates who bring significant professional experience and wisdom designing coherent math curriculum, as well as experience with a variety of math curricula. The strongest candidates will also have experience working in educational environments that value development of conceptual understanding in mathematics and will have particular enthusiasm for upper elementary math curriculum and pedagogy. Other pertinent skills include intellectual curiosity, strong leadership and collaboration skills, effective communication skills, commitment to ongoing professional development, and the ability to inspire an appreciation for mathematics among faculty and students alike.
Candidates should have a Master's degree in a relevant discipline and at least five years of lower school math teaching experience.
