Description

Trinity School, a co-educational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks candidates for the position of Learning Support Department Head, Grades K-12.

The Learning Support Department Head position has four primary focal points:

  1. overseeing the processes and procedures associated with the smooth operation of the K-12 learning support system;
  2. developing new, divisionally-appropriate models for the best possible delivery of academic support;
  3. the thoughtful establishment of clear philosophies and practices in response to the myriad learning support challenges at Trinity School; and
  4. working directly with students and with teachers.

The Department Head will support and evaluate the learning support staff in each division; partner with the two Admissions offices (K-4 and 5-12); work with each division’s student support team to develop, implement, and revise the instructional support and accommodations provided to students; act as a resource for parents in supporting their children’s learning needs; guide the school’s efforts to develop teachers’ capacity to work effectively with students with learning differences; ensure the oversight of psychoeducational evaluations, extended time, and other institutionally-approved accommodations; and work to build a stronger sense of departmental cohesion and cooperation.

The school’s current full-time learning support staff includes three Lower School learning specialists, three Middle School learning specialists, three Upper School learning specialists, and an Administrative Coordinator. This position will report to the Assistant Head of School.

The successful candidate will be a skilled, experienced learning specialist who holds a Master’s degree in learning disabilities, special education, or related fields and who has experience developing and directing learning support programs and staff. As one of the primary spokespersons and advocates for learning support efforts at Trinity, this individual should be an effective communicator with various groups of various sizes, whether discussing an individual learner’s needs or articulating the learning support program’s policies, procedures, processes, and philosophy.

Starting Salary Range: $100,000 - $165,000 (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
